Sure to get the last laugh, British comedian Spike Milligan, had posted on his headstone when he died 2002, “I told you I was sick!” Sickness, death and dying however, is no laughing matter. At least not for King Hezekiah whose desperate prayer in 2 Kings 20 actually incited God’s healing of a terminal illness in the king. But as we will see, the judgment of God on sin is no laughing matter either. As we will see, it is the the king’s devotion that stays the hand of God’s punishment of Judah’s idolatry for at least 15 more years setting the stage for one of the most puzzling chapters in the good king’s life. We’ll consider it all as we dive into 2 Kings chapter 20 today.
