Description

It’s known as acute stress disorder. It’s a condition that persistently occurs in the aftermath of a traumatic experience and often challenges the individuals ability to function and cope in the wake of what has occurred. It’s almost as if the person is unable to function emotionally.  The brain subconsciously shields the individual from experiencing such overwhelming grief by shutting off those emotions altogether. Over time, the condition subsides and the person is left to deal with the fallout of such an experience. This could have been the explanation for the impersonal tone of 2 Kings 25 as the writer, devoid of emotional response, records the unthinkable travesties of the fall of Judah. But in the wake of such tragedy, there are sobering truths with which we need to come to grips learning from the catastrophic consequence of Judah’s despicable disobedience.
