The French scientist, mathematician, and theologian Blaise Pascal once said, “all the evils of mankind come from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room.” I have to agree with the scientist here. No one likes to wait. We live in a microwave culture that demands that we have everything now. I wonder when it comes to spiritual things if we miss what God wants to say to us simply because we can’t stand to sit still long enough for Him to speak. Waiting on God is one of the hardest components of the Christian life but it is also one of the most formative. We learn things about God in the silence of our waiting we would never learn otherwise.
