Today as we begin our study, we are diving into one of the most interesting books in all the Old Testament. It is perhaps one of the most shocking and powerful pictures in all of Israelite history. Yet it starkly illustrates the deteriorating relationship between Jehovah and His covenant people, Israel. What would you do if you were a preacher and God told you to go marry a prostitute? Excuse me? What did you say? It might arouse a fair amount of confusion in your heart as to the wisdom of such an instruction. Yet this appalling instruction is precisely what Hosea is ordered to do. He does this because it illustrates a potent reality signifying the state of affairs in which the prophet ministered. As you begin this chapter, let me once again commend the video introduction to the book included as part of the ONE STORY reading plan. It is a helpful analysis of the book as a whole and will give you an important perspective as you begin your study. I link the video to the show notes to today’s episode.
