Sociologists point to FOMO as one of the foremost reasons for our alarming addiction to social media. FOMO stands for the Fear of Missing Out and it’s a real thing. We feverishly check our phones multiple times a day because something inside of us wants to make sure that we don’t miss out on what’s going on in other’s lives. But for the christian, there is another fear that we deal with it’s not the fear of missing out, but the fear of speaking out. We have been commissioned by God to share the gospel, but for us, it’s increasingly difficult to share that message in the world around us because of the fear within us. Some of that fear comes from our desire to control the outcome, we don’t want to be rejected. Some of it comes from a culture that is rapidly becoming more and more hostile to the concept of God and religion as a whole. On today’s podcast, we learn some pretty helpful things from the prophet Jeremiah when it comes to speaking up for our faith.
