One of the running themes of the Old Testament is the connection between idolatry and intimacy. God used Hosea’s marriage to a prostitute to powerfully illustrate to Israel what they had done in forsaking the Lord their God. That imagery returns now with the rebukes of Jeremiah to the nation of Judah. As we will see, these two ideas have a strong connection that demands our consideration. We have to realize our idolatry looks like the worse kind of infidelity to a God who at great cost to Himself has been nothing but faithful from the very beginning. We’ll see it together as we jump into Jeremiah 2 today on the podcast.
