But what might not be recognizable is all the foreshadows of Jesus' purpose in coming. Sure we know about the Roman census, the shepherds, the Temple account of Jesus discussing the law with the Pharisees. But when you see all these events in sequence and consider Luke's purpose for writing, you have a new appreciation of what Luke is trying to convey. The Jews call it stringing together pearls. Each pearl placed next to another creates a rich necklace of truth for us to consider.
