Well, Hells Bells! Looks like David Victory & Huey J. Peg are on a mission to find a reason for the season by finding out how to ignore your family via VR artifice :) The multilayered magic-trick of balancing complex ambiguities that Kiarostami plays with so well in Certified Copy (2010) ((& all of his films)) comes into full bloom herein. Artifice & authenticity, ambiguity & peculiarities, opera singers as actors & hands-off directing styles, how borderline personality's black\white savior/enemy viewpoint is a dangerous way to move through the world, how nobody really knows how they feel about something that happens to them until they've had time to process it, the importance of NOT reacting & just listening (in any relationship), how in relationships we foolishly expect mind-reading (to our own detriment) & yet what we really need is just to say out-loud what we actually want from those we love, the importance of car honking as a signifier of location & safety, how road rage is kind of embarrassingly self-absorbed, how the whole mainstream trans & nonbinary conversation is more about personality than it is about sexuality at all, how 'pretty privilege' actually precludes people from accepting potentially valuable ideas from people that "don't look like they can think as much," whatever that means, ((apparently i'm Huey J. Peg & i have to write a blurb for this bullshit, im a little hi, not gonna lie, i wonder if anyone will ever read this, double parenthetical run-on sentence etcetera, dot dot dot ellipsis)) & how the idea that "winning an argument" or "being more correct" actually means you're a loser who doesn't understand how to value the real truth of learning about how others feel :) All pain is relative & we can't really understand the Others' pain. Suffering isn't comparable. Marriage is a relationship based on balance & communication & honesty & humor :) Remember the tremendous value of helping someone, no matter how small. Ethics (being kind to other people around you) is the bare minimum. Certified Copy is a Movie Victory! Kiarostami is both a genius-level gentle romantic jester & a kindhearted kindergarten teacher. Then of course let's not forget the 60/40 rule, always give a lil more than you get. It works. Also Huey mentions his theory of Anti-Babel.
