For as long as Holly Sitzmann can remember, she had always dreamed of entering the teaching profession. Her admiration for teaching was fostered by her love for young children and her two sisters within the occupation. She attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she met Eric and they fell in love atop College Hill!
It was always a dream to start a family and after marriage, they welcomed a little boy, Emmett, into this world. Having always wanted more than one child, the couple decided to try for more.
On July 5th, 2019 the family welcomed Eleanor (Ellie) Jean Sitzmann! Life as a family of four was ready to begin….
Those dreams came crashing down days later when Holly & Eric noticed Ellie wasn’t acting herself. Following their parental instinct, they rushed Eleanor to the local walk-in clinic. Upon arrival, Ellie was immediately rushed via ambulance to the emergency room. Things turned terrible quickly and Ellie was intubated and life-flighted to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
On July 17, 2019, Ellie lost her courageous battle and was called home to Heaven.
Four, short months later the unthinkable happened. Emmett, the Sitzmann’s son, was rushed to the local hospital via ambulance. He too would need intubation and a transfer to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, after several days on a ventilator in the PICU, Emmett was extubated and discharged home.
Hear how Holly felt through this nightmare, and how she found the strength to ensure another family doesn’t endure what they went through.
“If we can save even one child with this mission, it’s been worth it.”
