Truly, Amanda Goodman needs no introduction. After having had a career that spanned two decades inside the news industry, Amanda has finally found her voice!
From humble beginnings after college in quaint Amarillo, Texas, to her rise as weekday evening news anchor, we discussed Amanda’s trajectory. We spoke about how Amanda decided to take a chance on a job in Iowa, and how fate allowed her to develop a “unicorn friendship” that would support her during her toughest transition.
Amanda detailed decisions that ultimately led her away from the news industry. The culture inside the industry turned Amanda into someone she didn’t recognize. Amanda was continually advocating and encouraging women to find their voices, but meanwhile, she was being silenced and verbally abused inside her own workplace. Amanda became unfulfilled with her occupation and it was time to get out of the business.
Acknowledging she needed to make a change, Amanda accepted a position with the Family & Children’s Council of Blackhawk County in Waterloo, Iowa, as the executive director. In that capacity, she was responsible for strengthening families and educating the community in the prevention of child abuse within Black Hawk County. She shared an alarming statistic in regard to Blackhawk County: 1 out of every 4 children will be sexually abused before they graduate from high school, and we discussed the steps we must take to change the future.
More recently, Amanda Goodman has partnered with Pixel Labs of Cedar Falls, Iowa, to offer reputation management. She was quoted as saying, “I want to empower brands, businesses, and organizations to control the narrative and tell their stories.” Amanda’s unique lens will allow her to help businesses to proficiently tell their stories; moreover, she has aspirations of working closely with women-owned businesses to help fill a critical need that exists.
