Laura Hoy was born and raised in Waterloo, IA, and then raised her own children on an acreage outside of Cedar Falls. Through her years of teaching elementary, being a youth director, and working through Orchard Hill Church in Christian Community Development and Neighborhood Revitalization, one common thread has run through her entire life in the metro area: service and community engagement. For 35 years, Laura has organized programs, events, and volunteers toward creating a more loving and just community. She's passionate about faith and justice, and she's acted as visionary, catalyst, and connector over the past thirteen years in a church-based wholistic development effort.
Two years ago when her 30 year marriage ended and her twins went off to college, Laura began to recognize she was in a life transition that not only included grief, personal growth, and healing, but also a new chapter in work and career. This year, in the middle of a pandemic, Laura turned toward another hobby and passion of hers- travel- and she started Lighthouse Travel Waterloo as a travel specialist.
