We open on a young woman sitting at her Apple® Macbook® Pro. She has just joined a video call with her coworkers.
JANE: I'm trying to stay positive, but this global pandemic is just so depressing. Some days it's hard to get out of bed. Maybe I should try antidepressants.
SIERRA: Have you heard of THE SMALL CALAMITIES?
JANE: No, what's THE SMALL CALAMITIES?
We hear the soft chime of a notification noise. Jane sees a link to the streaming music platform of her choice appear on her screen.
SIERRA: Well, have you ever scrolled sadly through old instagram posts late at night thinking about moments you wasted?
JANE: All the time!
SIERRA: Then you'd love THE SMALL CALAMITIES, a melancholy #power pop band from California.
JANE: Well, I mean, I'm a hipster
(gestures at modern apartment and thick rimmed glasses)
so I don't like to listen to anything too well known.
SIERRA: They're not very big yet! But you better start listening now because their last LP, "designer heartache." received rave reviews in Buzzbands.LA, Americana Highways, and Glide Magazine. It also charted nationally on college #radio.
JANE: Wow, this sounds like a great time to get onboard!
SIERRA: For sure! For their newest LP they worked with Vince Ratti (The Front Bottoms, The Menzingers, The Wonder Years) and Kyle Black (State Champs, All Time Low, Paramore). It's possible it will go on to be the best selling #album of all time!
JANE: Stop selling! I'm sold!
