BAREFOOT RUNNING w/ Suey Cooper
Suey Cooper, director and owner of Sole Distribution and Vivobarefoot Australia. Suey is both an expert and advocate for all things barefoot. Vivobarefoot Australia makes footwear designed to promote and restore natural movement patterns, whilst sourcing many of their fabrics from recycled materials and working towards a more circular shoe economy. We learn about shoe messaging, deceptive marketing and the risks of the conventionally 'supportive' runner.
Suey tells us how she came across Vivobarefoot and why she made the transition to a more functional and flexible shoe. Suey talks on shock absorption, running biomechanics and ground feel. We discuss injury prevention as well as performance and learn about how flexible footwear can restore strength and improve running form. Suey explains how you can transition to more barefoot shoes and the importance of defining your goals and seeking professional advice.
Vivobarefoot have strong environmental policies and are passionate about creating sustainable footwear that empowers people to live their healthiest lives. Wherever possible they source recycled and vegan fabrics as well offer a shoe swap service where you can return old shoes for a discount on a new pair. There were many practical take-aways from this conversation with Suey, it might even inspire you to try out some barefoot running!
We by no means suggest that everyone should transition to barefoot running although we do hope that this episode encourages you to ask more questions about what you put on your feet! We can't wait to hear what you think, please like, comment, share, subscribe, all the usual things!
