The gender data gap and your fitness. This is where we explore how the gender data gap (and a knowledge gap) affect your body in terms of fitness, nutrition, and even overall health.
Imagine a world where we said to teenage boys and men... “We will switch off your testosterone, and replace it with a synthetic pseudo-testosterone. It’s going to cause weight gain, depression, and loss of libido—but don’t worry! All the other boys take it.”
Ridiculous, right? Yet, this is exactly what happens when teenage girls and women take a hormonal birth control pill. And it affects your body's ability to build bone density... a huge benefit of strength training.
From micro-annoyances to more serious impacts, the absence of data on female bodies means there is an extremely high probability that every fitness article you’ve ever read, every meal plan you’ve ever followed, and every workout program you’ve ever pushed through, was based on research gathered from male bodies and designed based on what we know about how male bodies adapt to exercise and respond to nutrients.
This is an incredibly condensed look at some specific ways this affects you and what you can do about it (on a personal level). On a global level... let me know your ideas!!
