We've all seen those 'Meanwhile in Canada' memes that attempt to paint a rosy (and false) picture of Canada. They are almost always posted in conjunction with another image of America that paints the states in a negative light. The result is that both Canadians and foreigners begin to think that Canada is some sort of Utopian paradise where the police are nice and good and don't brutalize indigenous, black, and brown communities on the regular. The truth is that police brutality is a problem up here, and it's high time someone addressed it.
