Description

Jeff & Mike kick off their Spooky Season Series with Soviet film "Viy" from 1967 starring ⁠Leonid Kuravlyov and ⁠⁠Natalya Varley.⁠ A young priest is ordered to preside over the wake of witch in a small old wooden church of a remote village. This means spending three nights alone with the corpse with only his faith to protect him.

Viy (Spirit of Evil⁠) ⁠is a 1967 Soviet ⁠horror film⁠ directed by Konstantin Yershov and Georgi Kropachyov. Based on the ⁠story of the same name⁠ by ⁠Nikolai Gogol⁠, the film's screenplay was written by Yershov, Kropachyov and ⁠Aleksandr Ptushko⁠. The film was the first Soviet-era horror film to be officially released in the USSR.
