Description

In this episode I interview David Bauckham, photographer, blogger and photojournalist about his interest in English Amateur Football.

In non-league circles, David is the celebrated author of a number of books, including the infamous 'Dugouts' and 'Love Not Money', in which I feature as a volunteer for Matlock Town Football Club.

David charts the history of the game and explains the split between the amateur and professional football clubs, and the formation of separate football associations, even going back to the different rules which existed in the early days of the game. We talk about the world's first football club, Sheffield FC formed in 1857 and look at the different codes or rules under which different clubs played at the time.

We then bring the discussion right up to date to consider the place of amateur football in the modern era and consider the relationship between non-league and amateur football.

The podcast will be of interest to football historians and lovers of football as we take an affectionate look back at the English Game.
