Then Jesus radically redefines greatness. (vs. 43-44) Do you want to be great? You must be a servant. The Greek word is diakonos; it is the word for a paid servant, such as a table waiter; they serve voluntarily, of their own free will; they choose to serve. In Luke’s version of a similar discussion, Jesus asks the disciples…Luke 22:27 “For who is greater, the one at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.”
