How are you at keeping secrets? Secrets can often be a bad thing, but this isn’t a secret, but it does require us to trust in God who sees what we do in secret for Him. In the passage we read today there is a big difference between what you do to be seen by God and what we do to be seen by people. You might say it’s similar to the difference of being self-righteous and being declared righteous. This is the very thing Jesus wanted to clarify, that as Christians we don’t have to impress God or people to make ourselves look good. God always looks at the heart and he rewards those who diligently seek Him and honor Him in all we do and also in our giving.
