In a HBR article Deborah Rowland writes
“Too many business leaders today are out of touch with the employees they lead. Edelman estimates that one in three employees doesn’t trust their employer — despite the fact that billions are spent every year on leadership development.
Part of the problem: Our primary method of developing leaders is antithetical to the type of leadership we need.”
Means: Directly opposed to the type of leadership we need.
What type of leadership do we need today?
Leadership is not a title or a position. John Maxwell says: Leadership is influence.
Your influence is gained because you have the right mindset, directed through competent skills. Leadership is like beauty, hard to describe, but you know it when you see it, and experience it.
Having the right mindset means you approach your leadership with a relevant perspective that affects your actions and therefore your behavior.
Do you realize it can be a small shift in your mindset or attitude, or behavior, that can change your leadership results?
Every manager today needs to be a leader, able to engage, guide, communicate, align and motivate their employees.
Gone are the days of Jurassic thinking and application.
Leaders today need to do more with less, need to think strategically, need to be authentically building solid relationships, and building succession into the culture of the organisation, among a few.
Small adjustments can mean the difference between success and failure, results and under performance.
That’s why I intentioned to bring you small increments every day from the proprietary modalities that I use in coaching leaders. These are small bite size chunks of the development academies I run for high potential managers and current managers and leaders who wish to sharpen and tune-up their leadership.
It’s about focused thinking and implementation, daily. It’s about getting results.
We have all experienced from bad to the worst leadership, and from good to the best.
I want to give you bite-sized ideas, to prompt and inspire you to think and implement actions that will give you results.
One thing that you have to consider as a team lead, or manager in your organisation is how your leadership principles are influencing the people around you. Your goal is to keep your team members or employees motivated, guided and engaged.
Thank you for listening.
