At the end of the day we are accountable to ourselves - our success is the result of what we do. ~ Catherine Pulsifer
Good leaders hold their team or employees accountable to the values, measurable's and outcomes.
But, in the same way, to build that culture of integrity and mutual respect, you, as the leader, need to be accountable to the same measures you have for your team.
You need to be accountable for
maintaining the course to the vision,
maintaining the spirit and behavior of your vales – organizational and team,
following through on the initiatives,
implementing the strategy,
keeping your word – trustworthiness, and
for reaching performance goals and objectives.
Nothing breeds disappointment, disrespect, and dissatisfaction like a manager who is not accountable for their actions, behavior and outcomes.
Stephen Covey said that accountability breeds responsibility! Response=ability – using your ability to respond. It is irresponsible to complain and blame. Leaders solve problems, they don’t complain about them.
Leadership means, by definition, that you model and mentor. You model responsibility, and mentor by example.
Mistakes are made and failures happen, but the leader accepts responsibility and is willing to be answerable for these. It doesn’t make you a failure, it means you have the mindfulness, honesty and courage to be accountable. It gains your teams respect!
That’s why it is vital to have leadership clarity on the essential elements of your leadership.
Thanks for listening.
