Description

Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast.

In this Dhamma session, we take a closer look at the Kāladāna Sutta (AN 5.36) and the Buddha's teaching on giving timely gifts and how the merit-making can be vast

The five timely gifts are:

  1. one gives to a visitor
  2. one gives to one setting out on a journey
  3. one gives to a patient (or sick person)
  4. one gives during a famine
  5. one first presents the newly harvested crops and fruits to the virtuous ones

We also cross-reference some additional teachings from the Buddha on gifts  of a good person, remind ourselves of the importance of letting go of stinginess, some advice on how to refine giving, as well as look into why giving to noble ones makes a gift fruitful, and who is considered the most worthy of offerings and gifts.
