In today's episode of Psych Talk I discuss medical trauma. Working in a hospital this is something I frequently see; however, I unfortunately do not feel like it is well recognized by the mental health community, nor do we get specialized training in it (unless we seek it out). In this episode I discuss what medical trauma is and various ways experiences in medical settings can be traumatic. Additionally, I talk about PTSD and post-traumatic stress symptoms after medical trauma and discuss two models, the Integrated Model of Pediatric Traumatic Stress & Enduring Somatic Threat Model, of medical trauma. Lastly, I talk about interventions to help medical trauma.
