In today's episode of Psych Talk I chat with Rev. Katie O'Dunne, minister, doctoral candidate, and OCD advocate. Katie discusses her journey with OCD, the intersection between faith and OCD, and how she is currently working and advocating to bridge the gap between clinicians/faith leaders to destigmatize evidence-based treatments in diverse faith communities given that stigma around mental health is still very prevalent in faith communities. Katie is also an athlete and we discuss how her athleticism has intersected with her OCD and how she has set a goal to run 50 Ultra Marathons in 50 states to raise awareness for OCD and money for individuals to received evidence-based OCD treatment. Katie also provides words of encouragement for anyone struggling with OCD and really drives home the message that you can still hold on to your faith while seeking out evidence-based treatment for a mental health disorder.
This episode is part 2 of my "OCD Mini Series". Make sure to check out Episode 84 with Dr. Liz McIngvale for more information on OCD.
