This week we take a look at both the necessity and the process of developing self-compassion. Between self-knowledge, which is essential for mental health, and self-love, which is the goal of mental health, is self-compassion. This is the all-important middle step. This is where we learn that our pain matters and we begin to give ourselves what we've craved from others: loving attention. Without compassion, our pain gnaws at us. With compassion, we develop an internal respect that heals our deepest wounds. And also listen for an inspiring letter from a listener! (The self-compassion meditation starts at 29:51.)
