It hasn’t rained as much as usual. This dry spell started several months ago and fresh water levels are dropping fast. If we don’t have rain soon, the situation will become critical — it’ll be a drought [乾旱]. That’s a prolonged [長期的] period of abnormally low rainfall, leading to a shortage of water. Each one of us can help by conserving [善用保護] water. Voluntarily conserving water now will help delay a severe [嚴峻] water shortage and in the meantime we might get lucky — it might rain.
