Valentine's Day is a wonderful time to celebrate and appreciate all of the people we love. It's also a fitting occasion to reflect on the source of that love -- God. "We love because he first loved us." (I John 4:19)
In Ephesians 3:14-21, Paul prays his readers would experience the vast, deep, infinite love of Christ in a way that would touch their hearts and change the way they lived. His prayer is not just that they would intellectually understand God's love for them, but that they would personally know it. In a way, Paul here is trying to describe the indescribable, his heartfelt desire that the almighty, omnipotent, holy Creator of the universe would make himself and his love known to finite, mortal human beings.
It's a prayer we all need to have prayed for us, and the kind of prayer we should pray for others. Take a few moments this week and pray for someone else (or even yourself!), placing their name in this prayer. Because we all need more of God's love in our lives.
