Tom Witzky (Kevin Bacon) is a blue-collar Chicagoan who is disappointed with his ordinary life -- until he lets his wife's sister (Illeana Douglas) put him into a hypnotic trance at a party for fun. After waking up in a cold sweat, Tom realizes he has a psychic connection with his son, Jake who already has an eerie connection to the paranormal. Tom begins having alarming hallucinations of a dead girl in his house who he learns is a missing teenage neighbor named Samantha after her sister (played by Liza Weil) babysits and kidnaps his son. Convinced his visions will lead him to the missing girl, Tom obsessively looks for signs that will lead him to her. In his crazed search for the truth, he puts his family and himself into a life-threatening situation.
