Shruti Mandhani is a Research Fellow in Auxetic Materials at the Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI). Winner of the national 3-Minute-Thesis (3MT) competition in 2019. Writer, director and producer of a short film on ‘imposter syndrome’ and female role models in academia funded by UKRI for winning 3MT. Board member of Women of Science, a platform to celebrate women in STEM and improve access to relatable role models. Presenter of a series of video tutorials on ethics in science and effective science communication developed by Global Young Academy and the National Center for Science Communication (NaWik), funded by Volkswagen Stiftung. She has given various talks on public engagement in events like ‘PubhD’, ‘Barnsley Skeptics in the Pub’, and scientific conferences. Invited to ‘People Like Me’ session at Meadowhead School in Sheffield to help inspire secondary school girls to pick physics in their A-levels. Showcased research at ‘Explore!’, the flagship event of SHU during British Science Week, in 2018 and 2019.
