I was an agnostic police officer for 26 years, where I was exposed to many traumatic incidents. I achieved the rank of commander of a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force.
In 1998, I was diagnosed with PTSD and then with an incurable debilitating neuro-muscular disease that caused loss of feeling, muscle strength, and mobility in my hands and feet. I had over 30 surgeries cation on my feet in ten years, each time being prescribed opioids for the pain. I soon became addicted to opioids.
Then, my daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness with a poor prognosis. This placed me in a downward spiral that I could never recover from. After an attempted suicide, I made some very poor decisions that led me to a 14-year prison sentence.
God placed people in my life to teach me the gospel. I responded to God’s calling, and through divine intervention, my daughter and I were healed. I spent over eight years in Federal prison, where I co-pastored the church and taught how God heals PTSD.
In prison, I obtained a master’s degree in Theology and Christian Counseling, then a doctorate in Christian Counseling. I am now an Addiction Counselor, chaplain, and Christian Mental Health Coach specializing in trauma with the intent to start a first responder ministry.
I wrote a book called “Christ-Centered Healing of Trauma: Healing a Broken Heart” and a small group study guide. The book is the primary curriculum for “Hope and Healing for Warriors,” which is a veteran and first responder ministry with more healing ministries to follow.
The book explains the biblical principles God lays out in the Bible for healing. Scriptures are explained in plain language, along with how healing occurs.
I want to change the stigma of mental health issues and seek help. I would be honored to share my testimony with people who are oppressed by their trauma and want to begin that healing process.
