"Follow your heart", is the worst advice one can give his or her peer. This statement is especially true for believers as it is erroneous advise that can lead to dangerous consequences if one decides to adhere to it. The heart is deceitful and hopelessly sinful, therefore, it is quite hard to understand it. It is filled with affections, it is emotional, and can and will be led astray by these passions (Jeremiah 17:9, ESV). When one is led adrift, there will be danger lurking around every corner. The consequences can be life-changing or life-threatening in the most negative sense imaginable. The Good News is today that we can be kept on the straight and narrow path by leading our hearts and following God through His Spirit. God is the only One who can understand our hearts and therefore we must seek His guidance and allow Him to answer our situations, problems, issues, and circumstances through prayer and His Word (Jeremiah 17:10, ESV). So, lead your heart, and do not be led by your passions.
