So, when self checkout/ kiosks began to show up in more retail/ restaurant spaces, the lure was appealing & strong where one could expedite the shopping experience. You know the drill.., scan your items, minimize or even skip the small talk with human cashier associates, and ideally you're on your way! Scanning barcodes ourselves is now the new normal.
