[3/13/2018] On Feb. 11th a police officer entered into the 4 month old Oakland, California coffee shop known as Hasta Muerte for a morning brew but was greated with an unexpected response…he was “denied service”. There was a lot of confusion but luckily the situation ended without incident. To clarify the situation and to stand firm In their decision Hasta Muerte posted an instagram posted that said, “Habla con tus vecinxs no con la policia”, which translates to, “Talk to your neighbors, not the police.” The workers refuse to speak to media outlets but they have been cited on social media saying, “We have a policy of asking police to leave for the physical & emotional safety of our customers and ourselves.” As time passed it was publically discovered that the OPD officer that was “denied service” was actually the President of the Latino Police Officers Association of Alameda County. YELP heard all the complaints as the Fruitvale community provided support. Thoughts?
