Welcome back to the 111th episode of episode of The Cup which is our a weekly (give or take, TBD, these are unprecedented times) performing arts talk show presented by Cup of Hemlock Theatre. With the theatres on a come back we offer a mix of both reviews of live shows we've seen and continued reviews of proshot productions! For our 111th episode we have another instalment of “The Cup: Roundtable”. In this episode, once again hosted by Jillian Robinson, we mark the one-year anniversary of the passing of composer, lyricists, and the Shakespeare of musical theatre Stephen Sondheim, by devoting this special roundtable to his remarkable contributions to musical theatre. Together our panelists examine the complexity of his writing, debate whether Sondheim's compositions not being as hummable as his colleagues was a detriment to his work, and explore what legacy and impact Sondheim and his work will have on the generations to come.
