With the theatres on a come back we offer a mix of both reviews of live shows we've seen and continued reviews of prophet productions! For our 172nd episode we bring you a a Duet Review of Dead Elephants, written by Alexander Offord, directed by Nicole Wilson, presented by Good Old Neon. Join Jillian Robinson and Ryan Borochovitz, as they discuss the weight of grief, the violence of modernity, and the golden age of anthropomorphic narrators.

Dead Elephants ran at Aki Studio (Daniels Spectrum, 585 Dundas St E, Toronto, ON) from March 7th to 17th, 2024. Learn more about the production here: https://www.goodoldneon.ca/deadelephants

CONTENT WARNING: Dead Elephants contains themes of animal cruelty/abuse, suicide, and infant death; this review, likewise, speaks directly to these topics. Moreover, this review also veers into a discussion of racial violence, particularly concerning spectacle lynching – this topic is contained between [45:25] and [58:40]. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.

Less importantly, this review contains many SPOILERS for Dead Elephants. It will begin with a general non-spoiler review until the [16:17] mark, followed by a more in-depth/anything goes/spoiler-rich discussion. If you are tuning into this episode shortly before seeing a production of this piece, we recommend you stop watching after that point, or at least proceed at your own risk.
