Description

In this episode, Dr. Rhoads discusses how we are in the age of formative assessment in education. Dr. Matt outlines the implications of being in a time where a teacher can quickly assess student progress and provide student feeedback. Also, throughout the episode Dr. Matt describes how assessment can be integrated within the sequence of a lesson and how it help teachers monitor and adjust instruction and provide student feedback. On this note, Dr. Matt will outline that in the past, short assessments could not be quickly analyzed by teachers in real-time, which made it difficult to provide feedback directly to students immediately after the assessment. In much of the literature related to learning, this is a massive step forward because we are now able to give feedback related to performance, which amplifies student learning. Altogether, by the end of this episode, listeners will have a solid understanding how the power of formative assessment and how to integrate it into their instruction.
