Description

For this episode, we’re sharing Jason Miller’s recent conversation with southeast Texas native and Lamar University alum, Patrick Patterson, a documentary photographer who recently traveled to the Ukrainian border to document refugees fleeing to Poland. The interview aired on the premier episode of season 6 of the Bayoulands radio series on April 24,  2022.

Our thanks to Patrick Patterson. His photographs are currently on display in an exhibit titled "Dispatches from the Border" at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, New Hampshire through May 29th. You can learn more online at williampatrickphotography.com and his Facebook page.  And you can hear the full Bayoulands radio episode featuring Patrick’s interview as well as Jason’s conversation with Ukrainian-American Uliana Trylowsky this Sunday, May 22nd at 5pm on 91.3 FM and online at kvlu.org.

The radio episode also features music performed and inspired by Ukrainians including music by American musician, Calvin Jones, who fled Kyiv with his Ukrainian wife and released a version of the Ukrainian national song, “Shchedryk” known popularly as “Carol of the Bells”. The proceeds from the song and forthcoming album will be used to support Ukrainian refugees and those who stayed behind. To hear a conversation with Calvin Jones, we recommend another KVLU podcast… Tones & Drones…, in which host Jason Miller interviews musicians in the realm of acoustic, instrumental, and ambient music. You can find Tones & Drones on the NPR One app, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts.
