Description

On this final day of Black History Month, we’re sharing a conversation which aired on the most recent episode of Bayoulands, season 5. An interview from guest contributor Gordon Scott Williams with Willie Knighton, a pioneer in Southeast Texas radio. Known by radio listeners as “Willie K,” Knighton was a disc jockey on KJET, a “sunrise to sunset” station that catered to the African American community in the Golden Triangle for more than 20 years. Knighton was also featured in the recent documentary, “They Will Talk About Us: The Charlton-Pollard Story.” Produced by LUTV Productions, the documentary chronicles the origins of the oldest Black neighborhood in Beaumont, Texas.
