It is super easy to feel like the victim when you have a mental illness, especially when you did some really stupid things before getting well. But you aren't the only one who feels the impact of what happened. Lots of people get hit by the shrapnel of a bipolar blow-up, a depression collapse, or a psychotic break. No matter who, if anyone, is at fault for what happened, you are the one who was doing the things that caused their pain.
Developing empathy for the people I hurt when sick, or had to deal with all the repercussions of my disaster, shook me out of my victimhood so I could start rebuilding a life.
