Hello, my dance friends! Today, I get to chat with Cheyney Teagan--a MENAHT-inspired theatrical fusion dancer, musician, and costume designer. Cheyney Teagan is an Austin-based performer, specializing in Raqs Sharqi (“dance of the East”) and American Cabaret Style (aka “bellydance”), a derivative of Raqs Sharqi.
When Cheyney isn’t dancing, she works on designing custom dance costumes and creating whimsical jewelry through her business, Cheyney Teagan Designs. She is a professional model, has just started a production team with her partner, Reuben Rodriguez, and leads the Austin chapter of “Shimmy Mob,” an international organization dedicated to raising awareness of and preventing domestic violence.
Cheyney is the new weekly performer for Darband Hookah Lounge in Austin--catch her Wednesday nights--and will be performing with the fusion dance troupe, Shunyata, at recurring monthly shows at Houston's Red Dwarf, as well as upcoming Texas Renaissance Festival seasonal performances with Shunyata.
