I read an article the other day with the title…
“Friendship is the root of Freedom”
In this article it talks about how “Freedom” and “Friend” come from the same root word “fri” or “pri.”
What does that root word mean you ask??
To LOVE.
To be ‘free’ was not just to be unrestricted, but to be a friend among love ones.
“‘Friend’ and ‘free’ in English…come from the same Indo-European root, which conveys the idea of a shared power that grows. Being free and having ties was one and the same thing. I am free because I have ties, because I am linked to a reality greater than me.”
With this idea in mind I turned to my friend and libertarian brother, Joseph Eckland, who is WELL versed in all matters Freedom and Liberty.
Why is it today that Freedom seems to bring a sour taste to the mouths of some?
Wasn’t our country founded on such?
Today Freedom seems to conjure images of someone riding in the back of a pick up truck, chugging a beer and then firing a shot gun in the air yelling “Merica!”
While to each their own as long as they aren’t hurting anybody…I believe Freedom is much more powerful and goes a whole lot deeper than that.
Free Will is SACRED…a divine right we were all born with..…and allowing it to blossom in one another without stamping out its breath and its light provides the very foundation of any healthy society…
..Of any healthy life!
The ability to choose your own adventure!…the ability to make the bonds and ties that you seem fit for your life….that resonate with you.
The ability to make a choice…and then face the consequences of that choice…be it good or bad…and adjust accordingly.
Is learning done in any other way??
There is something very scary and loving about allowing another to be the KING or QUEEN of their life…ESPECIALLY if you don’t agree with them.
It takes courage. It takes honor. It takes trust….to not attempt to control people in that way.
Then why do so many people today associate “Freedom” with “Selfishness”?
Today I seek to bust that myth and return FREEDOM to its rightful place amongst the most sacred of virtues of humanity.
But where does freedom stand when society is facing a threat?….you might ask…
Is it necessary for people to give up their freedom to seek protection in dark times?
Does this help?
What does history say about this matter?
Is it possible to be a responsible human being…protect yourself and others around you without sacrificing your ability to choose?
Where do governments stand in relation to Freedom?
Can Protecting and Honoring Freedom create a more healthy and caring society?
