Description

Paul describes the third heaven as paradise, which is the same Greek word used to describe the Garden of Eden in the Septuagint (The Greek translation of the Bible). Eden, is a Hebrew word that is derived from the word adan, meaning “to live full of; producing or characterized by sensual delights and pleasures.” I like to define Eden as a place of bliss— a state of perfect happiness and great joy. Paul is clueless about how he was caught up into this place, but what he experienced left him speechless. Note that the Bible begins with our God creating the heavens(note plural) and earth and these three heavens may be described as:

1. The first heaven is the physical realm.

2. The second heaven is the place of battle between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness.

3. The third heaven is paradise, and the place where the throne of God resides.
