When Mel offered to host Mel’s Travel Guide on Whose Blind Life is it Anyway, Victor snapped up the chance to bring this talented young woman into the network line-up. Mel was so personable, engaging, and rich with experience, regardless of her young age, Victor felt passing her up would be a detrimental loss. During a recording session for a Mel’s Travel Guide episode, Mel’s guest happened to be her mother. She relayed her experiences coordinating travel amongst her family, her husband, and daughter, on a world wind cruise that Mel remembers for a long time. Given that all three of the family members were blind, coordination efforts were hampered by the accommodations required for their service animals, luggage, sleeping accommodations, apart from other logistical mountains, but she managed to hurdle all of the obstacles placed in front of her, and they manage to have a great time on the cruise.
Victor felt he needed to interview Kate Stephens, to hear about her life, and what it was like managing a family where all members have visual impairments.
So now, here is the interview Victor did with Kate Stephens. In addition to being informative, and illuminating, it was also one of his happier interviews.
You too can be a guest on Meet Me, telling people about your life, and how you’ve dealt with blindness, whether you faced any issues in your life, and how you came to get passed those issues. These experiences have the dual effect of letting others going through the same issues, that they are not alone, in addition to giving others strategies they can used to surpass the issues they are also facing.
