Movies and television have come along way since the early days of entertainment, where it sprang up from little transistor radios, to little boxes, to flat panel screens and to worldwide content produced over the internet, like streaming services, Hulu, Netflix and YouTube.
No longer are movies and television the sole property of mega entertainment companies like Universal, Metro Goldwyn Mayer or Paramount, they’ve become a part of social media, with people offering their opinions on a variety of subjects, and while the various platforms have tried to stem the tide of hate mongering and misinformation being disseminated around the globe, governments are asking them to restrict even more of what you say on the internet.
On this Friday Film Feature, Victor reviews a YouTube channel that has the ability to influence the minds of people all over the world. The YouTube channel is called The Rubin Report, which features Dave Rubin proffering his opinion and news from his perspective, and one of his main topics is free speech, and not limiting the rights and freedoms of individuals. The conundrum?
Where do his rights stop, and his responsibilities begin?
The segment Victor concentrates on, to emphasize his point, is a segment on The Rubin Report about Fascism and the abrogation of individual’s rights and freedoms, and how he thinks that the corporate giants are pushing for governments to enact more laws limiting their population’s rights and freedoms. In particular, Mr. Rubin concentrates on an interview given by Susan Wojcicki, the current CEO of Google and YouTube.
