In chapters 2-3, John conveys in multiple ways that Jesus has come to bring something new. The time has come for the old ways of living and relating to God (ways that served as sign posts to humanity’s need for a Savior) to find fulfillment in the new life Jesus offers. Our response now is to recognize what it means to step into this new life and, as John the Baptist testifies, to allow Jesus to “become greater” while we become less.
