Description

Nigeria has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. According to UNICEF, the country accounts for about 10% of global deaths for pregnant mothers, despite having only 2.4% of the world's population ยน.
Maternal mortality rate: 576 deaths per 100,000 live births. Approximately 262,000 babies die at birth every year. Infant mortality rate: 69 deaths per 1,000 live births. Under-five mortality rate: 128 deaths per 1,000 live births.

The Federal ministry of health recently launched a free Caesarean section CS for vulnerable women in Nigeria. We examine the significance and impact of the program on Nigerian women.
