In
December, 2023, the Nigeria Police Force officially launched the implementation of the upgraded electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR), designed to bolster the safety and security measures for all Nigerians. This means every car owner is to visit a designated website to register his or her vehicle. Recently, the Nigeria Police Force announced commencement of enforcement which was greeted by public outcry due to inadequate sensitization. Therefore, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate suspension of the proposed enforcement of the e-CMR initially scheduled to commence on the 29th of July, 2024. What are the benefits of the e-CMR? Why should every organization or car owner pay for this registration? These questions among others were answered by my guest Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Daniel Aroguma.
