[Acts 3:19] Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
REPENTANCE IS A CHANGED _____________
[2 Corinthians 7:9-10 NIV] Yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10 ____________sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but ___________ sorrow brings death.
___________ is NOT repentance.
Repentance: deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like.
Regret for past action
Metanoia: a change of mind and determination to lead a better course of life.
REPENTANCE IS A CHANGED _____________
[Acts 26:20] I preached first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that all must repent of their sins and turn to God—and prove they have changed by the good things they do.
A divinely changed mind always results in changed behavior.
_________________ is demonstration of repentance.
[Luke 3:3] Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.
Romans 6:4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
REPENTANCE RESTORES ___________________
[Luke 15:17] When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger!
[Luke 15:20] “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.
[Romans 2:4] Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
