Pastor Taylor Shippy - John 19:28
Friends, I could be wrong, but I believe "I thirst" gives us a glimpse into Jesus truly experiencing what we feel every day—what it means to be human.
That Good Friday offers a window into the incarnation of Jesus Christ: the Son of God without ceasing to be God becoming fully human.
That is a real man experiencing real human suffering! Better yet, God Himself is experiencing real human suffering! The Word who became flesh is experiencing the full weight of human brutality firsthand in the flesh!
He thirsts.
Thirst was—or used to be—exclusively something that plagued only us. But here God thirsts. He’s become something that He never knew (cf. 2 Cor 5:21).
And it appears that Jesus wouldn’t have it any other way…
