No one reads—let alone preaches—Mark on Easter. Mark doesn't give us what we want unlike the other three Gospels. Mark just gives us the bare essentials of what happened that day: an empty tomb and a vague promise. And he ends with three terrified women who—at face value—don’t tell a soul! Easter's not supposed to end like that, right?
This is why practically ten out of ten times we tend to avoid reading—let alone preaching—Mark on Easter Sunday. Convinced Mark has nothing to offer us on Easter, aside from frustration and bewilderment.
But while Mark may have—at face value—the lousiest Easter of the four Gospels, what if he is in fact the right Gospel that we need most this Easter.
